Weight Check

No pictures today...just the stats from our most recent Drs appointment.

On Tuesday, the 28th, Carter was a healthy 8 lb 12 oz (43%), which means he gained over a pound in the 2 weeks since his birth. he was 21 1/2" long (73%), nearly 2 inches longer than his birth length. Also, his head circumfrence was 37.5 cm (53%).

Olivia was with us as well, and she weighed in at 24 lb 15 oz (35%). I wish we had gotten her height as well, because she has grown like crazy this summer, but I forgot to ask. Needless to say, things that were safe before are no longer safe from her reach :).

I'm pleading the fifth on my weight check...I have a few pounds to lose.

Visitors

I've really enjoyed seeing so much family this last week. Carter's birth is a good excuse for everyone to come visit us, and I've loved every minute of it. Here are some of the picture highlights. I feel bad that I didn't get any shots of Great Grandma/pa Wellman, but I did pretty well overall :)

Great Grandma Bonnie and Grandpa Dale

Great Grandma Grahyl and Grandpa Vern
*note: I love the 'grandpa's hands picture*

Grandpa Gary

This picture may not need explanation, but in case you are wondering, it is three generations of arm hair. As you can see from the second picture, this may be one area that Carter got from my side of the family, as his Dad and Grandpa Gary C are slightly less hairy than Grandpa Gary J.

Uncles Den & Melvin. They were the first visitors to get quality awake time with Carter.

Big sister :) Not exactly a visitor, but these pictures were cute

'Uh...mom?! What is going on here?' (What Carter was thinking...)

Carter's First Week

I'm splitting Carter's first week into three different posts. I know this is crazy, and that I take and post WAY too many pictures of my children. Before anyone complains, this is for two reasons: 1. I love taking pictures of these two beautiful kids. 2. We have a lot of family who live far away and are unable to see them as much as we would like. 3. This is my journal, and I don't want to forget the circumstances and/or stories for any of these pictures. And now that I've said my piece, here are the pictures :)

First is Carter's coming home. These are all just cute interactions between Olivia and Carter. She is very interested in him; she loves to smell him, hold him (which she tells us by saying 'hug' and pointing to her hand), and give hugs and kisses. I think for these pictures she was amazed that he was home with us, and starting to understand that he was here to stay.

The next day, Carter was wearing a hat, and O was a little jealous. To prevent her from pulling it off his head every two seconds, we got her hat from upstairs and let her wear it. She loves to put it on herself, even if the results aren't always great!

Carter got his first at-home bath at six days, and hated it :). He screamed the entire time, and we couldn't seem to keep him warm enough. Until his cord falls off we can't really bathe him, so this is the best that it's going to get.

Saturday morning, on Carter's official 1 week birthday, daddy and Olivia washed the car. I don't often take PJ pictures with hair undone, which might have been the reason that I thought these pics were so cute.

This doesn't include all the visitors we had, or the one week photo shoot, so there is more to come!

1 Week Celebration

On the 18th Carter celebrated his 1 week birthday! We didn't do a lot to celebrate, but we did take some adorable pictures :)

I should clarify that he was totally content throughout this whole process. A few of his faces look like pre-cries, but they are just some of his charm!

I love those baby hands and feet :)

This was one of the first time Carter had experienced tummy time, and he was quite enthralled by it :). These are also some of the best pictures I have taken with my new camera, and I'm quite proud of them.

Carter has quite a lot of dark hair, and not just on his shoulders and back! He has a full head of hair that, when it's clean, sticks up like downy fur on a chick or duckling :).

And a lovely little bum shot...he actually has a pretty small bum, but it was just a great angle.

We are so lucky to have Mr. Carter James in our family, and are enjoying every day of him getting more alert and observant. We are still working at figuring him out, as we will be for the next 20+ years, but we are already enjoying him as an addition to our little family.

Carter James Casqueiro

I'm interrupting my slow-going catch up for an update...our family grew this weekend! Carter James Casqueiro was born on August 11 at 12:11 AM. I'm not going to go into a lot, I'm just posting a huge load of pictures for those of you who are interested...

We went to the hospital at 7:30 in the morning (August 10th), but were turned away because there were too many babies being born. We were a scheduled induction, so they promised to call when they could get us in. That afternoon, around 3, we actually ended up admitted, and were very happy to know we were going to the hospital and coming home with baby in tow.

Carter's labor was very easy, the toughest part was finding a vein to put in the IV and getting the epidural. 7 pokes later, we were all hooked up to Pitosin and the epidural, and were ready to go. Carter on the other hand, was holding out for August 11. I'm not going into any of the gross details, suffice it to say that the delivery was much easier than Olivia's, and we were very glad to see him out, "happy" and healthy. I say happy because you can see from the first few pictures that Carter was less than happy with all the bright lights and funny things going on.

I love this profile. The matting doesn't do his hair justice; it is quite dark and pretty thick for baby hair.

Grandma Terece and Grandpa Gary were waiting in the waiting room, so they were our first visitors. By this time Carter was warm and much calmer.

And then we weighed him...much less warm and much louder on his part :). He was 7 pounds, 11 ounces, and 19.75 inches long.

After he got measured, the nurse stuck him in the warmer for a bit to give him eye drops and a few other things. From my bed, all I could see was his little foot propped on the edge of the warmer, just hanging out. It may be a mother's perspective, but I thought it was adorable :)

After about 2 hours we were able to make the transition to the Mother/Baby floor, and get settled into our permanent room. Carter got his first bath, I got my first food (in what seemed like days), and we settled in for our first night together. I say night, but it was about 4 before were were able to get any rest...a busy day.

Here he is the next morning...a little furrowed brow but sleeping peacefully.

Olivia meeting Carter...she was very interested in his hair and feet, giving lots of hugs and kisses. She did have a little jealousy with whoever was holding him, but did amazing for her first time meeting him. She seemed to totally understand that the 'bebe' who was in mom's tummy was now out and she could hold him.

Grandma Mary getting her turn...as you can see Olivia is trying to push him off her lap. Luckily that didn't last long :)

Olivia: "no, no, no, no, no" as Grandpa gets to hold him...

She settles for Grandma, but immediately wants a turn holding the baby.

And the 'first cousin to hold him' award goes to..... Niki! She ignored the posted visiting hours and burst through the doors, pushing her way past nurses and laboring mothers alike, just so she alone could hold the title of First Cousin. I'm afraid Max didn't have a chance with this one :)

 Dad zonked out between visitors...

Sunday morning the family came again to visit and see the baby. My favorite moment from that morning was Olivia reading 'Pat the Zoo' to Carter, and pointing out all the animals. Her Grandmas were both there to help...I just loved it

Most of the visitors had already come, so we spent the afternoon relaxing and just enjoying this new little addition to our family.

I love this good looking man :) Posing for the camera as usual, but he is an amazing husband and dad, and I don't know what I would do without him.

Monday morning we packed up and went home! Carter looks tiny in his car seat, but was totally content the entire ride home.

I could go on for pages, but I'm just amazed that I have been blessed with such a wonderful family, and can't wait to see how Carter's little personality fits completes our family.
