The last month of living in Oregon has been very exciting for our family. Knowing me it will be a month or so before the pictures get up here, but I wanted to do a little stats update on Olivia because she got measured and has had some major changes!
Here's just a little glimpse of the little sneak :)
On June 28th Olivia 'turned' 20 months old! We celebrated by getting her 18 month shots (only two this time!) and going to lunch with Grandma. At her Dr. appointment we got some new stats for her:
Height: 33.5" (80%)
Weight: 23 lb 8 oz (26%)
Head Circumference: 47.5 cm (67%)
These stats are pretty typical for her, and I wasn't surprised that she gained over a pound because she has been a nonstop eater these last few weeks! Her doctor was pleased that she gained some weight, and I was glad to have an excuse to be picking her up less :).
In the last week or so we have started our 'terrible twos'. Now don't get me wrong, Olivia is still a sweetheart and is very obedient and helpful most of the time. She has, however, learned that she has opinions and she loves to express them. She has thrown a few tantrums (luckily no huge ones in public yet), and has started screaming when we tell her no. We have discussed 'inside voices' quite a bit, and she is learning. I'm sure we haven't hit the worst or most defiant of this stage, but it's been an interesting transition.
So far we don't have a time out chair or any specific discipline routine, as one hasn't been needed, but I can see one in our near future. She had her first time out a few days ago and it went surprisingly well. Mostly at this stage we just have to hide our laughter as she is quick to use 'no' and 'yisss' to tell us what she wants.
She has started talking all the time, and has quite a few more words than she did at 18 months. I'm sure I will miss tons, but here is the list I have in my phone:
*Ash-hee (Ashley) - used ALL the time. She asks about Ashley when she's not around, and gets ridiculously excited when she comes to play. If Ashley is around Olivia doesn't want to play with anyone else, and loves to lead Ashley upstairs to read books and/or play in her kitchen
*An-ny (Andy) - Andy lives an hour away so we don't see him as often, but she is quick to point him out in any picture we see, and she loves to play with him when we can
*All family members names - So far the only names of our immediate families (her aunts, uncles, cousins) that aren't really clear are Grandma and Grandpa, but she definitely understands and has tried them out a few times.
*I got it
*I uh-ooooh (I don't know) - complete with arms up by her ears and little twisting hands, this is her automatic response when asked where something is
*up *bubble *baby *ite ite (hot hot) *dip (usually on her veggies) *hot tub
*golf guy - a statue in Grandpa's den that she is especially fond of. She also points out 'guys' everywhere we go
*iPad - yes I'm a little embarrassed by this, but she loves to play on Grandpa's iPad. He has a super fun Disneyland app and a few other toddler games that she loves, so we have to be careful to only let her play for a few minutes. She knows how to close an app if you open one she doesn't want, and can always find Mickey's ears to open the Disney app. Once in the app, she knows how to scroll, open the different pages she wants, and play each of the games...it's actually quite impressive, once you get past the embarrassed to be 'that' mom part :)
*dup ('sup) - Alex has been teaching her this, paired with the half nod
*ball - any sphere is a ball, and she points them out everywhere. My favorite time recently was at Target, where they have big red 'balls' right at the entrance. They are taller than Olivia, and are just red cement things, but she ran around to each one pointing out the ball
*dog - mostly she says 'ooooooohhh' every time she sees a dog, and gets really excited. We have to be careful not to let her get too close, but she is always quick to turn around if they bark :)
*show & TV - she gets to watch some kids shows, especially if I want to do her hair in pig-tails or anything that will take some time. Once the TV is on she will just sit and stare, and doesn't complain at all while I do her hair. She doesn't ever watch more than half an hour or so a day, and never complains when I say it's time to turn it off, but I know we will face that battle eventually :)
*gregory - no she doesn't really know this word, but every time you ask what the baby's name is, she says something that sounds unmistakingly like Gregory. Not really sure why, but we will have to work on that before Carter joins our family next month!
Again, I'm missing tons of words, she really knows how to say most things she encounters on a regular basis, and is learning more words each day. But I have remembered most of the funny ones, though that list grows every day as well!
We are thoroughly enjoying our time together as a family, and the fun stage that Olivia is in. She is set on being a big kid and doing everything the big kids do, so Alex and I have plenty to laugh about on a regular basis. I'm always surprised at her independence and helpfulness, and sometimes surprised by her stubborness (which she gets completely from her father ;) ).
